The Roland cube comes to my mind or a silverface Fender Champ.

I'm going to agree with a couple of other posts and say the Vypyr. The Vypyr 15 is of course the cheapest, but the Vypyr 30 has a stompbox section for me effects. They all sound good regardless of what wattage you get though.

there are those who swear by small practice amps and then there's guys like me who say - go as big as your budget will allow. something with a master and channel volume. test driving them at GC is a good idea - i've always found their staff very helpful.
