Proper wood for a guitar cabinet (3/4" 13-ply voidless Baltic Birch is the most popular among the pro builders) is NOT cheap at all.

Birch is difficult to obtain if you do not live in North America.
Flooring ply is good quality here. I settled on 18mm flooring ply with one good face side. The opposite side is a little rough, but it is good enough.

I've found Russian BB/CC ply at a local supplier but I dont have any pricing yet. Like your flooring ply Dusty, it has a good and a bad face.

What jointing method did you use? I'm no joiner/carpenter so I was thinking I could use dowels and reinforce the internal corners of the 'box' with some hardwood batten. Glued and screwed into place this should provide plenty of strength.

Do you have pics of your cab?

Dowels are not needed Andy, just glue and screw, so long as you use something like 25mm x 25mm battons to brace the joints. The battons will provide strength and keep it square.

Oh Joy of Joys

My Mum and Dad have just been up to drop off some christmas goodies for Tom (my boy). I asked Dad if he knew any one who might have a woodworking router. It turns out that one of his drinking buddies at the golf club is a professional joiner, and that plied with enough alchohol would probably knock me up a cabinet in next to no time.

SWeeeet!!!!

Perfect!!!....You can also probably get the timber yard to cut your plywood to spec if they have a panel saw...most do. Once cut, off to the joiner!!

Local supplier has Birch ply in stock (but the Trade timber yard (where the stock is held) was closed today - only the retail counter was open). They also have some planed 25mm sq ash @ 2.4m that I can use as the internal bracing/frame. So I've oredered some for pick up next week.
With The timber I have coming I should have enough for 2 Cabs. I have seen some 2 x 12 cabs on eBay for over £200 each and these are without speakers fitted. Should cost me about £50 for all the wood.

I've been toying with the idea of still DIY-ing the cabs. If I get a Router and a dovetail joint jig, I can knock a couple of these out every month, and possibly earn a few quid along the way. I already have all the other tooling required, such as power sander etc,,

Cheers

Andy

Butt joints only needed.
Dovetails to guitarists is like feeding strawberries to pigs.
