I was thinking of a "basic" mfx box- if it even exists. I've been looking online and trying to narrow things down. I don't want anything with a million effects that I'd never use either. Nor do I want to spend 100 hrs programming either.

I don't know why they don't make them like this anymore. They made even a simpler one back in the 80s that had a real tube screamer in it.

If I were getting a multi-effects pedal today, I'd without a doubt get the Line 6 M9. YMMV

That sounds like the sort of no-frills effects box most people really want.

I used to have multi-effects processors but went back to pedals. I can reach down and dial them in really quick, even in the middle of a song, without needing a giant manual. I like the less is more theory, I guess. They are analog, so I also like the way that they sound compared to digital.

G, have you heard this through a tube amp? What has me thinking about a simple mfx box is, when I switched from my Strat to a Telly, things just when nuts on me, and I had to turn my tubescreamer off. I'm sick of messing with a mass of pedals. Of course I'd try it out first, and $400 isn't anything to sneeze at, but if it buys me some peace of mind I'd consider it. Also, seeing this vid has my curiosity piqued: Media Center - Gear | Musician's Friend

Oh! It is very simple to use. Setting it up took some reading and thinking, but operating it is very simple. Every button tells you exactly what it does and I have all of my settings marked with a white grease pencil. The volumes of everything are perfectly matched and marked.

Also, if the power goes out on one of the distortions, I will have backups. They don't all use the same power supply. I never have to worry about power failure or dead batteries. There are 3 sources of power, so if one bites the dust, I just switch to another one really quick.

No experience with this specific model at all. However, almost all of the effects are already in my PODxt, and that I have a lot of experience with. That's why I said that's the one I'd get, because I already know how the effects sound

You'll almost always have to do some adjustments when switching between two different guitars. That's just the nature of the beast.

I sometimes use my Boss GT-8 like an effects pedal. It has a "manual" mode that allows you to use the footswitches for effects instead of to change presets. It isn't too bad, on account of the fact that some of the effects(delay and distortion, mostly) can actually be tweaked with assigned physical knobs for the parameters, rather than through the software.

I like the Line 6 stuff OK, but I prefer the Boss effects.
