I can get a slapback effect with my MXR analog delay.

I've been thinking about this, and I do believe a good reverb pedal will do. I want one anyway because I think the spring reverb on my Deluxe kinda sucks.

I've been looking at the Boss-RV 5

EH Holy Grail, and Holy Grail Plus.

Basically, I'd like the pedal to go from mild 'verb for some ambiance, to a surf kinda reverb; 2 ends of the spectrum.

I was able to hear the Boss RV 5 for just a bit the other day in a store, but it's stereo, and I don't see the point in spending the extra bucks for a stereo pedal.

The EH's sounded pretty good, but I've read there's QC issues with EH....any opinions on EH pedals?

G- were you thinking of the Boss RV3 that's discontinued? I've seen them on ebay. But I think I like the sound of the EH pedals best so far.

EHX makes pretty decent quality pedals. I'd have no problems buying one. The Holy Grail is a great reverb pedal, but it's really not all that versatile. Not sure about it's more expensive variations, though. The RV5 is the Boss reverb I was thinking about. The line6 tone core pedals have recently been discontinued, so that's why I mentioned the line 6 being discontinued.

I've never heard the reverb on your amp, but I know the reverb on my BJ sucked. It was way too bright and sounded too sterile and more like a bad digital interpretation of a spring reverb than an actual spring reverb.

The 'verb on the Deluxe is OK at best. Very mild. I get more 'verb out of my Cube or Peavey. I was messing with the cheap Behringer digital reverb yesterday, and it kinda approximates what I want, but it does suck the tone out, as you suggested it might. I haven't put it into my effects loop, as suggested by many. For a $30 pedal, it's not bad.

Supposedly, there's been some improvements to the EH Holy Grail pedals. They make a nano now, with a small footprint. Saw demos of it online, and it seems to go the 2 ends of the spectrum I'm looking for. True bypass, and doesn't seem to be a tone sucker. Debating whether to spend in excess of $100 for a 'verb pedal.

I'm going to play with the settings on my Boss Chorus, mxr delay, EQ, and the cheap Behringer to see if I can improve the tone. I started reducing my pedals, but now I find myself adding stuff back in, as I'm messing with different tones. That's why I was thinking of getting something like the ToneLab multi-effects box. I'm sick of the pedal shuffle. A friend of mine just bought the Prophesy II processor, and he's in heaven. But that cost like 2 grand.

We wouldn't be having this discussion if the 'verb on the Deluxe didn't...well, not really suck, but certainly not up to what I want. The presence knob is still a mystery to me.

I'd definitely run a reverb pedal in the FX loop, and most likely the delay too, and hell, while you're at it, just go on and put the chorus there too (I personally like chorus after delay).

As for the presence knob... their function tends to vary from amp to amp. On some, they alter the really high frequencies, and the treble alters the lower treble frequencies, and on other amps, they work the opposite way around.

I think I'm going to run all my time based effects through the fx loop. But just looking at all my pedals scattered around is annoying the hell out of me. I'm still undecided whether to go the the local GC; almost invariably, I walk out annoyed because what they advertise isn't necessarily in the store. Plus, it's Saturday, when every next guitar hero is blasting out power chords, and the sales staff is hungover from the night before.
