Yeah, I can vouch for eBay as well. Been buying stuff off there for years. Never once been shafted or screwed in any way. Although I usually check things out pretty thoroughly and in a lot of cases ask questions of the buyer before bidding. Especially on shipping costs... some people low ball on the price and try to make up the difference with a really high shipping cost. |

| Villainous Mastermind | All sorts of glorious buttons and knobs to turn and push to change the sounds of the effects.

| Definitely. I know that there are some die hard pedal fans who completely disagree with me but I used pedals for years. I owned a ton of em and hated every minute of the fiddling, battery, extra cable, noise crap I had to put up with. The minute I bought my first Boss ME-5 my jaw just dropped and it was like 'holy shit... now this is what I've been looking for' Not only the sounds available, but the fact that it's midi. I rarely even use an amp for recording anymore cause it's not necessary. Occasionally I'll also run something through Amplitube later but only because I've already recorded a guitar track I want to keep and somewhere along the way the sound doesn't match the background anymore. The only other thing I've been using for years is a Redbox Cabinetulator. It actually came with the ME-5 that I bought but I think they were around $50 in the early 90's when I got mine. It's about the size of a mini cassette recorder and basically goes in the effects loop of any multi-effects unit. It just takes a little of the hard edge off some of the overdrive sounds. Like occasionally you'll get an awesome overdrive sound but it sounds a little too much like a pedal and not an amp. But you kick this thing in and it's just like somebody walked out and mic'd an amp for you. Even on the GT-8 which has a cabinet simulator built in, it improves several of the more 'fuzzy' sounds. |

The GT-8 and the GT-10 are supposed to close in sound from what I understand. It is rough to go from channel to channel and not accidently hit a patch that's super loud. It was the same way with my GT-6. The GT-10 does have a noise gait. I don't play anything hard, so I don't use it. Someday..... Otherwise, the 10 has a GUI. Less knobs required. I like it better that way. You also don't get false values. Perhaps an example. Say you set up two patches and they both use the same distortion effect. The first one's level you set to about 60%. The second one you set to 85%. The knob stays at 85% when you go back to the first patch while the actual value is still 60%. The GUI on the GT-10 displays the actual values. I think most of the sound engine is the same between a GT-8 and a GT-10, but I don't know for sure. All's the Boss site said was something ambigous like "improved" or whatever. From what I've read, it's close. Final thing. The output is important. I will someday get a small and portable PA to run mine through. My little Fender 30W SS amp does color the tone. What this means is that you could perfect a patch at home on your amp, but it would sound different on someone else's amp.

| Villainous Mastermind | Isn't that uncanny. Usually spam offers porn. This spam, however, offers effective approaches to spamming. Do you use this program personally? Or have you just read about it? They did got to the trouble to put an avatar up. I'm sold.

I've got a GT-8, and it is a solid piece of gear. I've considered selling it a few times, but I eventually come to my senses and keep it. Hell, I thought about trying to sell my GT-8 HERE, and changed my mind between registering here and posting this! I've got tons of stomp boxes, but there's something sort of better about a multi-effects processor. It is simpler, and the effects aren't so different that effects pedals are worth the effort or cost. I've heard that the GT-10 is harder to navigate... but I think it also has a virtual interface through a computer, which would make things easier. |
