I know exactly what I'm looking for in the guitar department. I just had an epiphany and I'm pretty uhh, I don't know what emotion I'm feeling... Excitement? ![]() Well... As far as foo-foo effects go... Those can wait. I'm talking about the guitar itself. I finally decided what tube amp I'm going to get and I kept coming back to it. It is infact... The Egnator Renegade. There's something about it that makes it special... I think it's the wonderful tube mix knob, the bright and tight switches, and the reverb sounded really nice too... Oh and the dampening controls. The dampening controls give me the nice dark, rich, warm... Whatever you want to call it tone. Also... I decided what I'm looking for in a new guitar but not a model yet... What I want in a new guitar is a nice guitar with medium output humbuckers as the stock as opposed to higher output pickups that will cause the guitar signal to break up the front of the amp faster. I want a nice natural sounding clean tone that allows the characteristics of the wood to seep in. Not like a low end Ibanez... Something with character. And as far as tone when I kick on the distortion... That's something I'll have to shape myself. Any suggestions? I was thinking a PRS Custom 22 but the price is like that sensation when you stick your head too close to a fire and you can picture yourself in flames. lol. Thanks guys.

What about a high-end Ibanez?

| Hahaha! I was using the lowend Ibanez guitars as a point of comparison. Nonetheless... A lot of high-end Ibanez's are worth a gander I suppose...

| I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the IBZ/DiMarzio pickups in my S2170. They are mid-output pickups with a warm and open sound... nothing like the heavy metal high-output sound you would maybe expect from Ibanez.

Hmmm... I can't find the guitar itself. No shortage of reviews but that's no good if I can't find it... Strange. It's not a discontinued model is it?

You can buy mine for one million dollars! ![]() Of course, most of the $1000+ Ibanez guitars come with DiMarzio pickups standard, so crap pickups aren't a problem. Beyond Ibanez, and I assume you don't want to spend a million dollars? Anything with a Duncan Jazz pickup will do you right. Usually they come with a JB pickup paired to it, which is a little higher output but cleans up nicely when you back off of the guitar's volume.

Well... What I want is medium output but still has a nice fat sound. Anything like that out there?

| Well... what you seem to be describing is a mahogany body with medium-output humbuckers. Anything with the Duncan JB/Jazz combination would seem to fit the bill pretty well. The Jazz is a medium-low pickup that sounds really warm and full and has good note definition when distorted, and the JB is a medium-high output pickup that is a little brighter for leads but also cleans up well when you roll back the volume.

| Sure... speaking of discontinued models, if you can find a Schecter C1 Classic, that would be a serious guitar for really cheap. I've seen them sold for as low as $500 new, and they are of the same build quality as Schecter's $1000 models. I played one right after messing around with a $2500 Ibanez Jem, and I'd take the Schecter any day of the week.
