I have a similar problem and made a thread about it. I used Fast Fret, and a user posted a good post on how Fast Fret actually hurts the strings, I'll see if I can find it.

I found a solution to my problem. I wash my hands before and after playing, and wipe the strings down with a soft microfibre cloth after, put it in a bag and be done. My problem wasI was using Fast Fret along with highly acidic sweat and the area I live usually has high humidity. That's the best I can do, and it went from changing every 2 weeks to ever month.

EDIT:Here it is

http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...and.html?cat=6

It's about 3 pages long.

Sorry, Cadence, but I think FF is a scam, and just adds a layer of goop to your strings.

If you use Elixir nanowebs on your electric, I don't think you'd need to do anything to make them last longer. They're like cockroaches, imo. They'll survive a nuclear blast and keep going. I guess they might be good for your type of music, but, personally, I hate them. I read in one of your posts you had some problems with artificial harmonics. I think it's really hard with Elixirs.

I've never used Dunlops, 'cept for my acoustics, I think. I've settled on D'Addarios because I like a brighter sound.

some guys boil their strings, in water, and they claim it doubles the life.

have not tried it.

I didn't read the whole thread, so I don't know if it has been suggested already - Elixir nanoweb. These strings last for over 3 months. And even after 3 months they look, and more important sound and feel, as brand new.

You know that old joke, about three friends who met for a coffee:
guy #1: I made 10,000$ net last month
guy #2: Nice, I made 6
guy #3: Well I made 46$ net last month..
both other guys: Oh... What strings do you use?

I haven't changed my strings once and I've had the guitar for nearly two months. It sounds ok to me, but maybe I'll get a shock when I do actually change the strings! I read somewhere that it's recommended to immediately change strings on a new guitar as the ones that come with it aren't usually that good (unless the guitar itself was really expensive). True or false?

Speaking of strings, do older strings tend to buzz more, because mine are getting a little buzzy. And how much of a guitar's overall sound is down to the strings, as opposed to the craftsmanship on the rest of the guitar?

probably 50%.
old strings lose their life, and body.
steel is constantly stretching, and after a while when it reaches it's max.--time to change.
on the road i was changing strings every week.
now not quite as often.

I agree Elixir nanowebs will last forever. They run roughly $13-15 US. May be expensive, but I had a guitar with Elixirs on for nearly 2 years. They sound very warm imo. Not bright like D'Addarios or just about any other string. I don't like how they feel either. Even through my callouses, they feel strange to me.
