I used some Dunlop string restorer on my strings today, only to find out it may have blistered the fretboard on my Schecter. It says it's not for use on maple fretboards, and unknowing, I used the stuff on my maple fretboard. Ugh... Now it looks like it might have blistered the fretboard. Here is a comparison shot between my Warlock and Schecter fretboard. They both have maple fretboards, with the Warlock being undamaged. Warlock Schecter What do you think? Is there some way to fix it?I hope to God there is. Here I pay $600 on a guitar only to make some newb mistake and ruin it. I hate myself... Thats the darkest maple I have ever seen...... I agree with classicrock, just looks like some gunk got stuck in the grain.

It's not a Maple fretboard. That's Rosewood.

^ ^ Yup. You got yourself some Indian Rosewood there, friend. Maple is a... Dare I say a "white(er)" wood. Rosewood is very poreous so you what you used just exposed the grain and the pores in the wood. Rosewood fretboard care 101: Because of all the pores in rosewood a lot of the moisture can escape easier over time. To combat this: lemon oil. Lemon oil will keep the moisture balance in check just fine. Just don't go crazy with the stuff because you don't want it too wet. A few squirts and a wipe with a cloth will do fine. I don't know what bloke told you that was maple... But do me favor. The next time you catch eyes with him give him a swift kick in the ass (tell him that's from me) then you're free to do what you will. ![]() Edit: I have two rosewood fretboard guitars and seeing the grain and pores is very common. Not a scary situation but, we're always glad to clear anything up.

Doesn't look all that different from my Schecter's neck. Should be fine.

Not just me that thought it was rosewood then; I thought I needed an eyesight test. +1 to what's been said already and do your homework before buying from that guy again

i would be more concerned about having your frets dressed before too long. once those gouges get too deep, you will have trouble playing those notes, then you are looking at a new fret job or fingerboard replacement. jimmy

You probably have a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard. I agree with C-Rock. Maybe a dry toothbrush and gently brush. To tell you the truth, I don't see anything, unless you're talking about the whitish stuff. Maybe a dab of lemon oil?

The Rosewood fretboards have really open pores. What I see in the picture really isn't something you should be worried about. Just play it. The leftover residue should evaporate with time, and the white looking grain will regain its color.
