Default Neo Classical

I've been jamming on a couple of licks tonight and it got me thinking; I quite like neo classical music but don't really know that much about how to put progressions together. I'm fairly sure that the harmonic minor scale crops up a fair bit, do I play some progressions from that scale? Any tips is mucho appreciated.

For neo-classical... There's a bit that Rusty Cooley did that he didn't shred the crap out of and it was pretty musical. if I find it I'll send it your way. Jeff Loomis' Miles of Machines was pretty good too. I know these guys are shred gods, but I can't really think of any other examples. When I hear neo-classical those two names pop in my head.

Jeff Loomis - Miles of Machines

Rusty Cooley - Under The Influence

Edit: Cooley's wasn't hard to find

I love Neo-Classical, but it is getting harder to sound unique. Malmsteen was doing it in, at least, 1983. Vinnie Moore, Jason Becker, Tony MacAlpine, and a ton of others made a bunch of albums.

Now, if you try to record a new song, it seems that everybody says "That sounds like Malmsteen!"

I try to stay away from it now because I don't want people to claim that they have already heard it before over and over.

I doubt if I'll ever record any life changing records but it's a style that's always interested me which I've never got around to toying with on the guitar.
