I don't have so much problem with singers nowdays, but I do have a problem with Auto Tune and vocorders.... fingernails on the chalkboard to me.. it's a prop for weak voices, out of tune and flat voices and a gimmick that just seems to be used in the pop arena... D^I_^G_ME^??

Oh, hell yeah - I hear that! I hate that Auto Tune crap. If you can't sing in tune, You Shouldn't Be In The Business! But they are, and they're flaming raking it in!

And that's probably why I don't like any "new" music. Rap is completely out the window for me, and it takes a lot of time for me to get into the newer metal bands. I've only recently (in the last week) found Trivium to be palatable. I was hooked with The Crusade.

Singing...people overlook it nowadays. They don't recognize the voice as the instrument it really is. When people think of bands, they'll likely name the drums or guitar first, completely bypassing vocalists. Ignorance must be bliss, though.
You just cannot beat a good voice, with an acoustic guitar or piano and nothing else. That's why I love it when rock bands do their Unplugged stuff - you can really hear the quality of their voices.

Personally I have my preferences for things, but in the end all I look for is something that sounds good. I don't really care how it gets there too much. So someone's voice has been altered to pitch. Bet it sounds better than it did in which case I see no problem with giving it a whirl.

Everyone knows Jedward can't bloody sing! Sure, they just about got by with high tempo songs (and any drunk idiot in a Karaoke can do justice to them), but when they had to tackle a proper ballad, they fell flat on their faces, and out of the competition. Hopefully they won't be bothering us for too long. They can't sing, they're as annoying as hell and they look like a couple of Trolls!

Do you see the similarity? Oh and my apologies for posting a picture of those two idiots in this forum of serious musicians.

I wouldn't try saying that to someone who has trained their voice for years, and has to watch while people who need machines to sing properly rake it in. I know a fair few of them, and they'd be throwing things at the screen about now if they were here...

That=100% true. It's like adding distortion and effects to a guitar. Makes it sound better (sometimes) so why not do it?

Luckily for me I don't really care what others think about my preferences for listening material. I appreciate and do my best to support people that really put their time in, but I'm not going to turn something down just because I don't like recording techniques.

Younger guys tell me that I'm just getting older. This is the reason that I don't like the new music. Yeah, I'm getting older, but it's not the problem! I still, and always will like screaming guitars and loud rock music. I didn't grow up with growling or rap vocals.

I grew up listening to Styx, Journey, Queen, Queensryche, Zeppelin, Eagles, Iron Maiden, Y&T, Dio, Toto, Foreigner, Triumph, Bad Company, Aerosmith, Boston, Heart, The Carpenters, Mariah Carey, Alison Krauss, Sarah McLachlan, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, etc.

Even though some of the above people are known assholes, they have super power house voices. Give me crystal clear, in key, powerful vocals any time. If I want to hear growling, I can just listen to my dogs.
