Default Glen Campbell

Im sure some of you who are around my age remember seeing The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour that was on in the late 60's. As I kid I remember watching him play guitar and that really inspired me. He was and still is a great guitar player. I think Glen and Roy Clark were two of the best in that country class at that time. I saw Glen at Harrarhs in Reno long ago and it was a nice small room and we were right by the stage. During the performance the drummer from the Monkees, Mickey Dolenz I believe came onstage and they played Last Train To Clarksville. I know booze screwed up his life for a long time. Tanya Tucker and Glen made some headlines that would rock TMZ today. He also has one of the worst mug shots out there in history.

I know he was a hero to Keith Urban and Glen met him once when he was very young. Speaking of Keith Urban he is a pretty good guitar player himself as is Brad Paisley. Some of the young country boys are not just strumming chords anymore, they are letting it rip. Although I guess it's always been like that. Merle Haggard, Waylong Jennings and even Willie Nelson are good players. Ive probably missed some of the old guys.

Anyway, there are some classic youtube videos of the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour. If you like the old stuff, check them out.

Campbell and Clark are monster players, as well as Paisley. Country guitar players don't get their due. Even though I'm a basic rock/blues kinda guy, I appreciate talent when I see it. Doug 7, Brent Mason, the Hellecasters. Most metal shredders wouldn't know how to jam with these guys, but I bet these country dudes could jam with them, if not outright kick their asses.

I agree. What I love about these guys is that they played so clean. I saw Glen on tv once play the 1812 overture and it blew me away.

I used to sneak and stay up late if I knew Roy or Glen would appear on the Tonight Show. Almost invariably, they'd sing or something, but sometimes, they would just rip and play some stuff. Yeah, and those guys shredded- without any distortion. Every note, clean as a bell.

I remember watching Glen and Roy both on TV. I knew Roy from Hee Haw. Didn't Glen have another TV show in the early 70s?

Yeah, I remember George Benson calling Glen up on stage at the Grammy's! Glen just tore the Jazz Tunes up! SWEET!

He also played on a lot of the Beach Boys Albums, as well as becoming a full Bandmember over time.

I read somewhere that the Beach Boys asked him to tour and play bass but he turned that one down.

Glen was a highly sought after studio musician a long time before he became famous.
