This is another thing that can get outta hand like collecting guitars...but there's something about a car or truck or a cool bike that you've worked on and just DRIVE man.... Anyone have one?.... I've had a few, but now am only down to 1...but am looking for a truck for the spring. |

I was a mechanic for 26 years and now work for a manufacture. I've had a few toys over the years but never really saw opening hoods on the weekend as "fun". I did have a Harley that I recently sold, I messed with. But lately I have a desire to buy and restore an old British sports car, an MG or a Triumph from the 60s, to replace the Harley as a weekend cruiser. I had a 64 Triumph TR4a for a while and that was a blast to drive.

harleys.. for me.. got my first one in 1979 , it was a 1974 FLH I restored .. I only paid $500.00 for it.. Sold it in 1985 ,, gave me enough with just a little extra to buy me a 1986 FXR.. had that till 2003.. went without a few years.. purchased a 2008 harley streetbob new in 2008. I work on them , customize them. I've chopped/raked the frames/ paint/ built custom parts and seats. Thats my thing.. guitars and bikes used to be women too.. but I was just married in October to a wonderful woman.. Don't need any others . It's by no means a new relationship, We've been together for 7 years. |

I have two 1971 GTOs...one hardtop, my daily driver, the other a ragtop which is the work in progress.

I'm a straight line freak. I've had many toys through the years but I kept only two. My first car I ever owned, A '1965 Dodge Dart GT 2 dr hardtop that started as slant six, slo-mo, transportation to and from school and work. I spent 2 years hot rodding everything I could on it. It sounded absolutely amazing when the slant 6 was still in it. It ran a best of 13.56@ 115 mph in the 1/4 unadjusted. The Deep 6, as I dubbed her, had 12.5:1 compression a custom ground racer brown solid lifter cam, Clifford industries aluminum 4bbl intake, a custom built ( by me and my best friend ) exhaust manifold with equal length runners, a custom built aluminum drive line and a torqueflight 727 tranny that was worked over by Ron Souza @ ADCO ( acceleration development company ) transmissions here in Sacramento. The rear end was a dana 60 with an 3:55 Auburn gear. It was built by Chris Alston here in Sacramento before he became a nationally know name. He and his brother are amazing. They also later supplied this cars narrowed rear end with a 4 link and a 12 point roll cage and a tube front chassis with a mustang II rack and pinion. That version, which is her current form, is stuffed with a 440 sporting 11.5 compression ( yes on the street, no pinging no heat issues ever ) a comp cams roller, roller rockers by cam dynamics, Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum heads and intake topped with a dominator 1050 cfm carb. The exhaust was custom build by Mark and myself for this beast. When she has hooked up clean it's run a best of 10.23 @ 135 mph. It is street driven. My other baby is my '92 Ford GT Mustang. I call her my Fake Snake as she is badged with the Cobra emblems, but it is far from stock too. It's not as fast as the Dart in the 1/4, but it handles SO much better and has seen 150 mph as I was on my way to San Luis Obispo out in the desert stretch where Oil derricks reside. It has a 427 long rod stroker motor in it built to my specifications by Speed-O-Motive. I HIGHLY recommend them if you want someone to build your motor for you. It's equipped with a Vortec S trim blower. There is something memorizing about the two chamber flow masters and 4k rpm .. I could listen to that sound from my car all day long. The most fun I've had was in my '95 Nissan Maxima ... She was my "Q" ship. I spent more money in that damn car than any other. It was a 4 door wolf in sheep's clothing. It ran consistent 12 second 1/4 miles. It's best was a 11.76 @ 121 mph on an Indiana drag strip. My brother and I drove down there to spend Christmas with some friends. One of our friends had a mildly modified '72 Camaro. He took it to the local drag strip all the time. I told him I'd race him Poor guy talked a ton of trash before the race. After it .. well, he was dumbfounded. I'd run off and hide from mustangs, corvettes and camaro's. when I showed him the engine he was still amazed that it was a 6 cylinder that whooped up on his v8 It was dyno'd at 367 HP with 365 Ft lbs of torque.![]() I always wanted a 70s Bronco and modify it but when I was laid off from Intel the fundage well was run dry Last edited by Nintova; 02-09-2010 at 04:35 PM. |

Here is my play toy. It is a 1994 Mustang GT. A friend of mine and I built the engine a while back. It has the catalytic converters removed, new built engine, headers, racing cam, pistons, heads, crank, rockers, racing wheels, tires, racing 5 speed transmission around 570 hp to flywheel and 456 hp to rear wheels. Estimated 20% loss due to drive train. The car has about 2000 miles on the engine and 60,000 miles on the body and frame. I get it out on the weekends and cruise around. I am not so crazy about the color, but it will do. It is plain with no logos, decals, or graphics. It will haul some ass! I call it "Ole Yeller"! My '85 Cadillac Fleetwood D'Elegance is not something most hot-rodders would go for, but that was the last year they made a 2-door Fleetwood. And I love the moon roof. So when the POS 4.1 L motor died, I decided to swap that out for a 305. The first one I bought turned out to have a cracked block, so I had to look around some more. I eventually found a pro engine builder who is making a 400+ hp small block Chev motor for his El Camino. Which frees up the 331 with the rebuilt trans thats in it now. So there is yet hope for my old Fleetwood.

Very nice Telewanger ! A few questions ? First, no La mans Bar ? I can tell you I cracked my shock towers a few times before I welded in plates to strengthen them and then got a bar. Also, stock radiator? I can't tell. Here in Cali it gets far too warm to roll with a stock radiator. I went with a Griffon 4 core in my Fake Snake. I use watter wetter in all my cars. Can't say enough good about that product. Sounds just like a mustang man .. I love that sound!! One last thing, what clutch are you using? The ONLY bitch I have with my 'stang is having to take it out of gear at every stop light. If you don't your calf will be wasted in an hours time!! Last edited by Nintova; 02-09-2010 at 06:07 PM. | |
