You know what, Keith? Probably the easiest solution would be to buy an attenuator; I'd be able to saturate the tubes, and have a somewhat bearable volume. But the THD Hotplates go for ~$400 I think. I have more pressing things to spend that kind of cash on. I got this cheap $40 master volume kit from ebay; the pre-amp tubes get saturated. For $40, it approximates a tube-y sound at lower volumes, and it goes into my effects loop, where I now have my time based pedals (chorus/delay/reverb). But sometimes, I would want the post amp valves really saturated to get that sound...well, you know what I mean.
Yup, just the speaker, Slim. You can build a box that can house one or more speakers as long as you have the ability to have a speaker extension out with the correct Ohm rating. The thing with using an attenuator is that you will get the pushed tubed sound, but at low volume, you will run into room volume over the volume of the speaker output. This is why one needs an ISO box, or at the very least, another room or closet to increase the volume so the mic can act normal. The lower the volume, the more gain needed from the mic to pick up the sounds. You also run into mic hiss from gaining the recording volume at the source. There has to be a certain amount of volume for the recording to be equal with what the mic picks up.

This is why I like to use the PODxt and PODX3 to record direct via headphones.

I don't need to crank the amp to get what a proper miked amp should produce.

I simply don't have the room for that kind of project, Keith. Guess I'll just have to keep using my JamVox for most things- sounds great overall, but I wish I could kick in an OD or some other pedal every now and then. I may play with it to see how or if, I can get better results with pedals. Thanks much.
