You can buy a neck from guitar fetish for about $40---I wouldn't spend much more than that on a $200 guitar!

Having had extensive neck work performed on my Strat, it was not and will not be cheap if you are considering an actual fretboard removal and replacement. I didn't even have that done, nor the need and it was over 500 bucks for a refinish and refret. I cannot imagine doing that level of work without simply spending the money for a new neck in the proper dimensions.

If you're talking about dings/divots in the actual fretboard wood, especially in an area you rarely play in, I'd personally leave it alone.

I have a pretty nasty gash on my American telly on the 6th fret; luckily, it's mostly on the low E side, so I don't even feel it. I spoke to a professional luthier about it, and he said it wasn't worth the cost of fixing.
