MikeSD Just getting started
Default Just starting out at 72

I just picked up a guitar about 2 weeks ago. I'm 72 and in denial about getting older. I love it so far. I play a mean 'A' chord.

Got a lot of questions. I guess that comes with also being an engineer.

Goal: have fun

Wow, that's great. Welcome to the forum. I'm the same age as you, but I've been playing a while. One of the great things about guitar is that you can get a lot of satisfaction fairly quickly.

Acoustic or electric? Gratuitous advice - a good setup is the single most important things for beginners.

Now go and practice the E and D chords.

I bought a Gretsch G2420T and a inexpensive amplifier (Acoustic brand) just to make some sound. It sounds well enough without the amp so I practice mostly without the amp. I have a lot of theory questions, to come later, and a couple of hardware questions I can deal with now. in my first post, about pickups, in Technical Info forum.

The G2420T is a beautiful guitar and the A chord is a great start. Welcome to the forum.

And as far as the A chord goes, I bet you play it just as well as anyone on this forum.

Welcome in and good luck to you!

Watch out for Aly because at 72 you are in her target range. Thank God at 62 im not.

Welcome aboard, Mike. Good to see another old fart here - and it looks like you're about a year and a half ahead of me in age but I'm a year and a half into playing guitar. But lemme tell ya - I've been having a blast learning and playing.

Oh, and don't pay no mind to them young'uns, Aly and Cobalt. They tease and yell a lot but they really know their stuff and keep us newbies pointed in the right direction.
