Default You either have it--or you don't

Hi, well seeing as how I keep buying guitars and then feeling completely discouraged because I can't make the thing sound like the youtube videos, I sell them and give up, I'm considering that maybe you either have it or you don't.
But I've just purchased another acoustic from American Musical and I'm ready to give it another try. The only thing that might detour me from learning is if the Lord God said that guitar is not my thing. So have I come to the right place?

If you're in NY, come plug my 75' Les Paul into my 64' JMI. You'll hear the voice of God, loud and clear. See what it has to say.

Yes, welcome.
Give it time, a LOT of the 'sound' and tone you hear is from experience with just playing the guitar. Those people on youtube, I'm sure couldn't make that 'tone' or sound at first, it took quite a while just playing to get the feel and hand control. Don't give up, take things one step at a time.

Thanks, The discouraging truth is, I've been doing this buy and sell thing since I was 16 and I'm 31 now. I blame it on video games. I started getting bad wrist problems and I always wondered, even now if that got in the way with my guitar playing. I love the sound of the guitar with the hammer ons and pulls offs and finger picking. I'll probably head on over to technique and skill. Thanks for the welcome!

It's easy to get into that idea, that the guitar is the 'key' to the sound. I (way back when I started) I used to think that way, then I seen an awesome guitar player pick up a guitar I thought was only 'so so' , he made it sing and sound amazing. Then it hit me, it's 'me'... almost any guitar can sound good even super good, it just takes time to develop the 'touch' for it. After that, all I care is if a guitar is 'good', little tweaks, pickup changes, things like that interest me not.

Agree, we have to decide what success means when it comes to our guitar playing. I bet even the most skilled guitar players find themselves asking themselves, am I a successful guitar player. It can be very unfulfilling when you compare yourself to others....yeah?

Hell I haven't had it since I started but I don't care, relaxation doesn't care if it sounds good or not.....
