Default Question about those little green squares? READ THIS.

What the heck ARE these little guys, anyway? If you're wondering, you're not the first...we've answered this question dozens of times, so I'm going to explain it all here in the hopes we NEVER HAVE TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION AGAIN.

The green squares found beneath your username and info indicate your reputation (or 'rep'). This forum, like some others, allows users to give reputation points to other members, on a post-by-post basis. If you would like to give reputation to another user, click on the scale symbol in the post you would like to give reputation for. In the picture above, this symbol can be found between the green circle (which means the user is online) and the red triangle (which is used to report spam posts and other forum infractions to moderators).

Upon clicking the scale, a drop down menu will appear, which will allow you to either approve or disapprove of their post. You may also include a message; although this is not mandatory, it is usually considered polite to leave some kind of message, along with your username, as otherwise the other member will not know who to thank. Comments are visible only to the recipient of the rep points.

If you click on "User CP" in the green bar near the top of every page of the forum, you will see a menu indicating all reputation points you have received...something like this:

Remember that the comment you see is exactly what the user typed, so if they don't leave their name, you will never know who gave it.

Each time somebody reps your post, you gain (or lose, if it's a negative rep) 5 points. At certain rep point levels, you gain additional green squares under your user info. Negative reputation points appear as red squares, or sometimes as dark grey ones. (To be honest, I'm not really sure how that all works, but it doesn't really matter.) If you hover your cursor over your squares, you will see a secret message. These were just thrown in for fun and are not meant to imply anything about your actual lifestyle...not that there's anything wrong with it. These messages also change at certain rep levels.

All reputation points are weighted equally, meaning you get the same amount of reputation regardless of how many posts or reputation points the giver has.

If you wish, you may also disable reputation points for your own account. You do so by going into your User CP, clicking "Edit Options" in the side menu, and unchecking the box that says "Show Your Reputation Level."
