I have played in function bands before making money from that. I am currently trying to get a ska function band up and running which i can't wait to do.

Maybe if you stick to Tiny Tim covers, people might pay you not to play!

My last band had a regular Friday night gig. I made just about enough to cover the gas to the show and my two weekly rehearsals.

Interesting...might have to think about that. It seems playing crapp music actually IS a way to get paid. Witness the justin beebers, thug rappers, and kesha's of the world...sigh...

I never made more than beer money and spare change back in my gigging days. At the time, I was reasonably happy with that. It covered my bar tab and I'd walk away with an extra $20 ... some nights.

Other nights, not even that.

Tough way to make money, that's for sure ...

Even if it is tough money I can only imagine the feeling of sharing your music with others

It does seem that way. Either you have to be very good, very lucky or both. Was having a chat with my neighbour's son who is in his mid-40's. Been playing in bands for ages. Has a steady job though. His view is while technically he may be a better guitarist, his friends are better musicians. However, he owns his own home while they are still surviving on lentils. A tough life if it's your passion.
