The high G reentrant tuning has always been traditional. This guy takes the Low G mod a bit further with a low A. Sounds like he's more into selling strings than actually playing the ukulele the traditional way.

I'm still fooling around with the uke. The nylon strings are still stretching, but it's intonated very well. I'm getting used to the tone/sound, and it doesn't sound "plinky," it sounds kind of "woody" and it projects fairly well.

Thankfully, there's YT, so it wont be nearly as hard learning a simple tune. I'm probably aiming a little too high, but I don't want to just learn a strumming kind of tune, but more a chord solo kind of thing.

Been reading up on strings. I've read that nylgut sounds brighter than other strings, and they recently made a change where it feels strange. Since I'm new to it all, it doesn't really matter much to me, but the nylon strings feel a bit too slippery, and unlike the nylons on my classical. It's just kind of fun to be doing something totally out of my element.

I still feel kind of dumb in paying what I did. I could have gotten the Cordoba from Amazon, and saved $80. Oh, well.

The high G is re-entrant tuning, but most replace with an octave lower.
I can see why it would be confusing if you are using that tuning.

C to A is a sixth, A to E is a fifth.

Normally, G, C, E, A

Everthing same as a guitars top 4 strings then. Two 4ths separated by a M3rd.(re-entrant G =G4)

Drop it all down a fourth interval and you have D, G, B, E. Baritone Uke.

I know, but I figured, I'll do things the traditional way; it's sounds more "uke" like. I kind of like the challenge.

Yep, but traditional as far as I can tell is G, C, E, A, With the G re-entrant

Even tuned up a tone , A, D, F#, B from what I can Google.

You have G, C, A, E. ???

Curious what you mean by a/e ?

a/e= acoustic electric. The choices weren't great. It was either very low end, or middling-high, so I went with what I have.

Yeah, it was strung up (high) G, C, A, E. I read about ukes, so know about the tuning you mentioned, or dropping the G an octave, but that would have entailed a string change. Since I really don't know what I'm doing, I'm just rolling with what I have. The high G makes for some interesting sounds. It's a matter of getting used to it. If I really get into it, maybe I'll get a 2nd uke like many players. But I don't see that happening anytime soon. I need to learn to play this one, lol.

Youve got me confused there.

Most Ukes I've tuned are either high G4, C4, E4, A4 or low G3, C4, E4, A4

By the way your tuning is I assume G4, C4, A4, E5 .

going from string 4 to 1

Sorry, it's because I'm confused. It's high G4, C4, E4, A4 (I think, lol). I keep confusing the E, and A.

I've noticed on the top 3 strings, I can play the minor pent.

That makes sense to me now. Cool.

Just play all chords as you would on the top 4 guitar strings. You just have to transpose any patterns or shapes to the correct position. You just get a different voicing for the chords.

For melodies, most use just the top 3 strings. Else they change the G down.
