Default How did last years resolutions go?

How did last years resolutions go?

Last year my resolution was to try and learn to play keyboards strictly from YouTube videos. Here's my update:

First I got a decent keyboard from a second hand store for very little money. A Kurzweil SP88. I wanted full 88 keys. I practiced nearly an hour not quite every day but every day I could which was by far most days. I started with scales which there are plenty of lessons on finger placement and movement on the Tube. This was by far the biggest hurdle. Then I started learning songs, but songs I liked, not Mary Had a Little Lamb. After a solid year I'm at least able to perform songs in my Church band. I just performed on the 31st and played 2 very piano oriented songs. Sinking Deep and I Am Free.

After about 6 months I upgraded to a Kurzweil K2600 XS which is a full 88 weighted key monster I found in a pawn shop that needed some love. This is an incredible instrument used by many huge bands from late 90's through the 2010 as a main touring keyboard. Having a pro level instrument can be really inspiring and this thing inspires me daily.

Although the time spent on piano could have been spent on guitar and I probably could have made strides if I devoted the same energy into it. It did not however, take away from my guitar playing, in fact it improved my overall musicality and practical theory application.

When I was 18 I made my first and last resolution, that was to never make another resolution again. So far I've stuck to it well. Thanks for asking.

I stopped making them, cause I never end up keeping them.

I don't know if I made any last year but one that I make a lot is to lose weight. I never really look fat but at 5 10 and 235 there is some excess there. Anyway, Im not sure if made one last year to lose weight or not but I did lose 47 pounds and now I am at 188. I would like to lose 6-7 more so maybe that will be my resolution for this year.

Quitting smoking was one of the hardest things I ever did. Started at 15 and finally quit for good at 47. I will say I had very strong motivation at the time in the form of intense chest pain and lousy health insurance. I thought for sure I was dying of cancer and quit smoking cold turkey out of pure fear for my life. It turned out to be pinched nerves in my neck causing the pain. But I quit smoking over 9 years ago..... I still miss an after dinner smoke once in a while but have no problem overcoming the urge.

Good going. 188 at 5'10" is lot better than 235.

I think one thing that has helped me is to stay away from processed stuff. Those foods with info labels that have chemicals I can't pronounce go by the wayside. I'm 5'10" and weigh in at 155. And too I walk 3 miles a day. That's a big help as well.
