I'll be interested to hear what people do with this, Jazz is like Greek to me, I don't even hear what it 'should' be in my head, trying to imagine what Eddie Van Halen would do with this backtrack lol

PM me yr tracks

To help you out....

Additional Info/Guide from the video:

120bpm / Chord progression:
II: Dmin7b5 I G7 I Cmin7 I Cmin7 :II

On the track, you will hear extensions of these chords - as is common in jazz of course

Scale suggestions:
C minor scale - C D Eb F G Ab Bb (C)
(Dmin7b5 chords and Cmin7 chords)
C harmonic minor scale - C D Eb F G Ab B (C) ..... (MG: PHRYGIAN if you start from the 5th note!)
(G7 chords)

Basic arpeggios:
Dmin7b5 arpeggio = D F Ab C
G7 arpeggio = G B D F
Cm7 arpeggio = C Eb G Bb

Next up, try out some more advanced colours on the dominant chord (G7) by treating it as an altered chord and using the altered scale:

G altered scale - G Ab Bb B Db Eb F (G)

The altered scale is the mode which starts on the 7th step of the melodic minor scale, so in other words - the 7 notes of the G altered scale are the same as those of the Ab melodic minor scale
Forgive me Goose, I'm new to this. Do I dub myself over the track and pm you an MP3? Sounds like fun.

But wait...if I sound totally atrocious will I be held up to ridicule for all to see or will I be given tips on how to improve? . JK!!

Alykat is the one who usually 'organise' the submissions for GTGP threads. Havent seen her for a while now. Probably recuperating from a massive pre-, post- and Xmas binge and enjoying her presents. :P

Yup. Just record your leads over the BT and send them over in mp3. You dont have to do the whole song. Just a 90sec ++ snippet so that I can put them all together (like a song) with the others. You'll be amazed at what some can come up with!

When its completed, it'll be put up for members to guess who is who.

Not a competition nor a thread to showcase talents but a sharing of ideas, forcing you out of your comfort zone ("penta-chronic" ), to try new genres and just for having fun.

You can also post your whole tune after that; for others to comment.

Do check out the old GTGP threads eg.

Man, . .... but it's Jazz lol That guy playing at the first of the track is making sounds so foreign to me lol
I didn't catch this was a GTGP, was thinking it was just a jam and post, maybe I could make a short 'something' then, 3-4 seconds ok? haha JK

3-4 secs?

Watched a couple of vids on jazz fusion licks and how to sound 'outside'. Its pretty cool and I did picked up a few tricks here and there. Still cant catch the swing vibe tho. I keep wanting to play fast and turn the gain up

If all else fails, I'm gonna approach this the 'Goose' way.

Wheres everyone gone to btw? Seems pretty quiet nowadays.

The cold probably has everyone hibernating. I know I am.

Swing is a dotted 1/4 note followed by an 8th. Do it long enough, and you'll never be able to play is straight 4/4 again. I hate it.

I still haven't really sat down with this track, but intend to give it a go.

I'll probably have to try it, don't know if I'll get anything 'record worthy' but gotta try I guess!

I know it's dead here for guitar playing now, we're missing the fun stuff now a days.

I've been working on it.

I think I kind of played this thing at first using blues and pentatonic scales and going from the gut. It sounded alright, but then I tried to throw in the G alt scale soloing over the V. That made me have to think about what I'm doing. It's a tricky sounding scale. And that G7 chord seems to go by fast.

So I programmed my Jammer 6 (it's like Band-In-A-Box) with just a V-I vamp so I could play longer on the G7. It helps.

Hey Goose, maybe extend the deadline for submission? A week?
