my best deal has to be when I bought my Les Paul. I bought it off a young guy that wanted the money to repair/fix-up an old Ford Mustang. I bought a 1975 Les Paul Deluxe for $350. still have it too.

I'm always looking for deals on gear. I've had a few, but the one that sticks out to me is the 1978 Madeira A4 by Guild in perfect condition except for a slight blemish. It cost me 79.99 with free shipping. After that, I got a Rogue All metal Resonator guitar for $20.

I was just divorced a year or so earlier, had liquidated my rig to satisfy the court, and didn't even have an amp to play it through so I never knew if it worked or not. But I sat in my loft and played that thing every day for months.. until someone wanted it more than I did and I needed the cash for a move up to a better place.
I sort of understand cause my financial stuff has been rocky too, part of why I haven't recorded lately. I went through a couple job losses.

Thumbs up

I've made so many deals, I couldn't even say for sure what the best one was, at this point.

A bandmate at church back in the '90's sold me this minty Fender '52 RI Telecaster, with tweed hsc and all the case candy (like the strap, and "modification kit" to change it to modern circuit) for, I believe, $400. Might've been $450, but I think it was 4 even.

Speaking of church, at a later church gig my bandmates actually bought me this MIK Epiphone Casino (with hardshell case), as a gift; it had a bunch of cool mods already done. Maybe not a "deal," but a great "price:"

I bought this MIM Telecaster Special used with a gigbag for $125 in the '90's:

Although the most I've paid for a guitar, getting this then-minty Gibson Les Paul Classic, w/ohsc, for $750 was a good deal:

The best deal may've been a trade that a buddy of mine insisted on though. I had this Epiphone Flying V, that I'd bought used for $250, and he wanted it:

Although I was trying to sell the above white Flying V to raise dosh for a different deal, my friend offered me a straight trade for it, and it was too good to turn down. I gave him the V, and he gave me (also w/ohsc) this Ric 620:

Those are the ones that stand out the most I guess.

Traded a PRS SE Custom 24 with an off brand hardcase for a 120th Anniversary Gibson Les Paul Studio with matching hardcase.

I should have been charged for theft.

I would say that beyond instruments themselves, the best deal I have found is an artful luthier that takes care of my flock. It's not much good to have stellar instruments that never get tuned up.

A Westbury guitar I got at a pawn shop around 1980 or so was hands-down one of the best guitars I have ever laid my hands on. Maybe not "best deal", because at the time they retailed at slightly over $200 brand new, but definitely the most I've ever gotten for my money.
