Yes, I am new to guitar and this forum. I have a Fender HSS (Mexican) Strat, and a buddy of mine told me that I should swap out my pickups and replace them with Seymour Duncans. A 59 and two dumbuckers, I think. Will this really improve the sound? Is it worth doing it for this particular instrument (since I am using it to learn)? I guess the sound I want is something that would be good for blues and classic rock. Is another combination better? Thanks in advance. |

Pickups are really a personal choice. Your buddy probably suggested those because they work for him or he thinks nothing can sound better. It is really up to you though, If you are just beginning and using that guitar to learn on, it really doesn't matter what it sounds like (just my opinion) so I would say hold of on buying new pickups. But, if you are really considering this, the '59 is a very good pickup for blues / classic rock. You will highly enjoy it.

He offers his advice on his own experience. Since you state you are beginning, take it with a grain. You actaully need to devote your energies and funds to learning at this point. Later with the new pickups.
