You have to pace yourself, like an athlete. Warm up, and maybe do an hour, then give your fingers, wrists, joints a rest. This is why we have pain- it's a stop sign. So, when you feel pain, stop. Also, you're still growing, so you don't want to be looking at some kind of repetitive stress disorder. You know any advanced guitar players who might be able to look at how you're holding the guitar and stuff? Now is the time to correct any bad habits (which in itself may be causing the pain). Sooner or later, you'll be developing some thick callouses. When I first started, I was playing a good 5 hrs on average, a day. My callouses got so thick, I had to shave them with a razor. But pain is a good indicator that's it's time to give things a rest. Call it a day, and give it a rest.

This sounds like callouses developing. You'll be fine, it'll go away soon. | |

I still get that from time to time, and I've been playing for 8. I think the key is to play regularly, which is something I don't do. If you keep your callouses callousy, you're set.

Akira can shed some light on how bad repetitive stress syndrome can be, when it's caused from playing guitar.
