Default How chords are made

Start with the C major scale
C D E F G A B C

Extend out 13 tones
C D E F G A B C D E F G A

Now bring down every other tone
C D E F G A B C D E F G A
|...|...|...|...|...|...|
C...E...G...B...D...F...A

C E G B D F A - this is how you spell the chords in the key of C

chord.....spelling....intervals that make the chord
C ======= CEG ======= Root 3rd 5th ========I
Dm ====== DFA ======= Root b3rd 5th========ii
Em ====== EGB ======= Root b3rd 5th========iii
F ======= FAC ======= Root 3rd 5th=========IV
G ======= GBD ======= Root 3rd 5th=========V
Am ====== ACE ======= Root b3rd 5th========vi
Bdim ==== BDF ======= Root b3rd b5th=======vii

That's it - with as few words as possible

And of course there's much more

Does anyone not get it or think it's confusing?

Good info. Might be worth extending the idea beyond triads a bit, if you have a bit of free time.

Still, great info and well laid out. +1 to you!

No worries! It's great that you posted what you did, and thanks again. Sorry if that didn't come out in my previous post.

Clifford!

That's EXCELLENT!

In more than 40 years of playing, I've never seen it put so succinctly! Do you mind if I copy that and spread it around?

I'm returning to the guitar after many years and unlike in my youth I would love to understand theory so that I can get the most out of my playing. I follow what you wrote until you get to the section titled "chord...spelling...intervals that make the chord." What are you explaining here?
