The above is a hypothetical ,to find out if it is possible to lay out in chronological order a 'road map' of learning theory for beginners, that can be a standard everyone can agree on.

Anyone ?.
It's REALLY confusing to learn all that stuff on guitar. Much easier to use the piano keyboard (where it's all laid out linearly), and learn your theory there.

There've been a lot of good suggestions so far. Let's see if I can pull that off too.

Easily the more you know about the neck of your guitar the easier everything else will be to see. Seeing not just the notes, but the intervals and the chords takes a lot of time, but it will make the neck look like so much more than just a plank with strings.

Any feedback would be nice.
Took a look at it. Pretty good site. Easy to understand, covers the basics through and through.

I will stress, however, if you're a bonehead like I am then just reading something once isn't going to make it stick. I won't bullshit you, when it comes to reading about theory it does take time and reviewing. Don't be afraid to ever go back and review something even if you've known for years. You'd be surprised at how much doing that can help. So when you're getting into a whole new department it can look like gibberish at first. What worked for me was just reading it over and over until I understood what it meant. Maybe that'll work for you. Worth a try.

Excellent zog! Very well laid out. (I can't comment on anything regarding your site, as I was focused on the content of the Theory section).

+1

I also agree that theory is easier to understand on the piano and when written out in standard notation instead of tabs. In fact if you take any theory classes at a school they will almost always require you to be able to at least plunk around on a piano.

Yep, zog, as a guitar performance major, I was forced to take basic piano, and all theory was taught in standard notation; couldn't be done solely on guitar, as theory class was comprised of different instrumentalists. I have to say though, the better teachers (imo) were the classically trained ones, while the "jazz" theorists made it more confusing than enlightening.

Thanks, very nice website. I find it very helpful especially because I have bought a new bass.

I'm glad I could help, there's just so much to know and if you don't know where to look it can be pretty hard to find! If you're interested in bass, you should check out www.talkbass.com; there's lots of useful links and posts on there regarding theory and electronics, much of which is WAY beyond me! I've never seen so many people that like to mod their equipment so much!
